My take on working behind the counter as a shift supervisor in a fairly busy Sbux in New England. |
How adorbs is this? I am going to squeeze that munchkin!
This week has been a complete whirlwind. I don’t know what it is. However, I could squeeze my manager because I am only closing 2 nights next week, so I’ll have time to spend with my friends and family. I love my closes, don’t get me wrong. Perhaps get some much needed rest is in order. One of the other shifts is on maternity leave, and she texted me and told me shes going to have a baby shower. I got him (she’s having a boy) this Starbucks onesie that says “I love you a latte”. I cannot wait to see it on the little guy!
I worked 11-7 today, and let me tell you it dragged on like no one’s business. I was told that I pour a cappuccino like a pro, so that made me happy. I had a customer order one of my favorites yesterday. Iced raspberry caramel macchiato. They’re so pretty, I love the pink. One of my friends, who sadly no longer works there told me about this one. I miss her so much *sniffle* If you do want to try this, you only need one pump and then the other vanilla. My current favorite is 3 or 4 shots over ice, couple pumps of mocha, 1 of coconut, splash of nonfat or an iced grande or venti 2 (3 for venti) pump mocha 1 (1.5 for venti) pump coconut no water Americano with room. Tastes like I’m drinking a healthy almond joy everytime!
Something Starbucks or coffee-related got you curious? Are you a barista who needs a little venting? Any questions or comments at all? Definitely drop me a line! I don’t bite and I definitely won’t decaf you :3
pressing-repeat asked: i just got a job at starbucks and i start working monday, may 28th. i'm excited but a little nervous but after going through pages of your blog, you make me feel a little better. :) any tips for someone new?
Oh there’s no reason to worry! I’m telling you, every new barista (including myself) always worry about remembering the drink recipes. There’s nothing to it. You’re basically making four kinds of drinks with syrups, sauces, and whip added to it. You will mess up, you will spill things on the 28th and two years from now. Even to this day, I always forget the chips or vanilla in a mocha cookie crumble. My friend spilled a whole container of chai in the middle of the rush lol. The thing about working at the bux is that you’ll meet some of the best people in your life , your co-workers. Just remember with customers, if they get that bent out of shape over a cup of coffee, it’s not your fault. They must be really unhappy with life. The good outweighs the bad, I have some of the best regulars ever, as will you. Definitely keep me posted on how your first two weeks pan out. Also feel free to come to me with any questions or comments. Your barista trainer will take good care of you. I remember when I started, I had to sit for 8 hours and read these horrible books, lol. The good old’ days.
haiimkayla asked: On another blog I follow, she calls the half and half breve. If I say that will they know what I'm talking about? also, what is the classic sweetener syrup for ice coffee? just sugar? :)
If you say you want half and half, it’s fine. If you say you want breve, it’s fine. I usually only say breve when it involves steamed half and half. We use B for breve when we mark it on cups for iced coffee or if they want it in a hot drink. Its easier than writing 1/2 and 1/2 or the word half and half. Yup, classic is just a simple syrup. Plain ol’ sugar!
I cherish my sleep so much. Working morning shifts suck! I hate doing the store deposit too because I’m a dumbass. Plus with it being so humid lately, i’ve been up all night coughing and wheezing. Stupid asthma.
doodootrash asked: I've been trying to get a job at Starbucks for like 3years....HOW DO YOU DO IT?! Tell me your secrets! Lol. Seriously though :/ I really want to work there :(
I don’t know, I just applied. My manager told me that they’re very picky with the application process. That they only look for people who have strong customer service experience. I had two interviews, even when I had my shift supervisor interview. A different store manager interviewed me as well as mine. Have you tried applying at different ones or going inside the store and requesting to talk to the SM in person?
Baristas rejoice!
Why couldn’t we have an Iced Chai or Americano happy hour?
Brewed or Iced Coffee, anyone?
amirite?
I hate how sugar-free hazelnut syrup smells like a wet dog and feet. It angers me. I hate how the cinnamon dolce smells too. It’s soo sticky. I remember when I first started. I wanted to make my BFF a cinnamon dolce creme frap and I used all 6 pumps since it was cold instead of 2. It’s a good thing I tasted it because I would have been embarrassed. It was sooooooo sweet. The creme base is sweet on its own. That’s why ladies and gents I hate cinnamon dolce so much.
Look at these cuties!
